Traditional Stable Isotope Mass Spectrometers (SIRMS) are considered to be complicated, costly, cumbersome instruments. Their combination of bulk and fragility means that they’re only able to differentiate elements by their mass to charge ratio (m/z) from the isolation of large regional lab facilities.
Thankfully, there is now a real alternative – the revolutionary new Isologger MS from Compact Science Systems. Put simply, it’s the most compact and rugged IRMS (Isotope Ratio Mass Spectrometer) in the entire solar system.
Here at Compact Science Systems, we’ve always believed in aiming high. So much so that we were the first company to put a SIRMS to extra-terrestrial use. This, in turn, makes the Isologger MS capable of performing MGIL in the most extreme of conditions. Our machine was deployed in outer space on the Mars Express in 2003. Needless to say, it had to be compact, sensitive and extremely robust – characteristics we’ve built into every machine we’ve made since, including the Isologger MS.

What's your gas?
When you’re determining the origins of gases, you need accuracy and precision. The Isologger MS has both in abundance, providing data on whether a gas is bacterial or thermogenic, as well as its maturity.
C1 - C8
Unlike many competitor machines, the Isologger MS can provide information from C1 right up to C8. For costeffectiveness, we’re often asked to focus our machines on C1 – C3, Methane, Ethaneand Propane analysis but, because Isologger MS is so sensitive, you can rest assured that additional C3 – C8 information can be gained from extremely low concentration gas samples. This additional information can help to determine the type of petroleum in your reservoir.Oil may be indicated by a higher abundance of C3+ components (Pentanes and Hexanes), whereas a “wet” gas can be dominated by Ethane.
